A Time When

There was a time when I believed
There's nothing I can't do.
A time when I'd do anything
If someone asked me to.

My folks made sure that I grew up
Believing in myself.
Life was what I made of it,
And not left on the shelf.

What you want is not a dream.
It's what you work to make it.
If you cannot reach that star,
Then carve a step and take it.

So all my life I grew to find
That what they said was true.
I accomplished everything
That I set out to do.

I had so many plans
To venture far and wide…
To search each nook and cranny
And reap the dreams inside,

But life cuts short too many dreams
And truth gets in the way
In one unforgiving moment
I became the ME today.
