THE STRANGER WITHIN

We are like driftwood,
You and I,
Sometimes still and lifeless
A remnant of a passing catastrophe.

We are like seaweed,
You and I,
Floating on a sea of sunlight,
A sign that living things survive.

We are like black and white,
You and I,
Being pulled together in the undertow,
Fighting each other all the way down.

We are like Moses in the bulrush,
You and I,
Resting from what lies in store for us,
In the pucker brush beyond.

We are like stars in the midnight sky,
You and I,
Giving off a glow that daylight cannot diminish,
Oblivious to those watching.

We are so different, yet so the same.
You and I,
Remnants of tidal wave's passing,
An eternity in less than a moment.
